So I was thinking, a bunch of people play this game with there kids and I think that is freakin awesome; but, why not create a setting/distro just for playing with the kiddies.
My thought was thinking a setting where a grand old wizard grew a giant farm to get all the things he needed for his spells and food with magic. The wizard put so much time and love into the garden in fact that his magic was soaked up into the roots of the plants. Many of the plants animated and became intelligent forming small communities. One such section of the garden was taken over by the insidious Brassica  (cabbage family) kingdom who began to enslave the other "lesser plants".
As the Brassica kingdom continues to attack and conquer the garden, brave plants stand against their tyranny including some younger breeds of Brassica like the masses of lowly Brussels. Even while adventurous plants delve into dangerous animal boroughs and even venture into the tower proper to find cast off or lost magical items of the wizards, a strange fungal blight creeps into the garden.

Thoughts? Should animals be included? What would you change/add?

Doh! So in doing more research I have found that I fail. There is  already a game The Veggie Patch. So I totally suggest this at a mere $3 bucks it is pretty fun even for the big kids. The games like classic fantasy adventure stuffed into a vegetable garden, and super rules light.

Sadly this means I will be going back to the drawing board for a good little kids game.

Saw this and wanted to let you know, I'm debating coming up with a beginner/kid-friendly setting, just haven't gotten all the nibbly bits down yet.

I guess my kids are old enough to want to smack some goblins down!

I set my campaign in the fantasy version of our hometown.  I found a map of Sterling from 1654 online (http://maps.nls.uk/atlas/blaeu/view/?id=125) and it was far too D&D to simply ignore.  All our adventures are based on nearby features, but in a fantasy setting.  They love it.

I have a 4 and 6 year old boys, and when I first played a game (we used the mechanics of a Fighting Fantasy book) I tried to lessen the violence only to have my 4 year explain that "poison then came shooting out; his head fell off and blood splurted out". I swear I haven't corrupted their fragile little minds! I think for a child's setting, the differentiation between good and bad must be obvious; torture or attacking innocents must never be tolerated - but for the rest of it, take the lead from the kids. I find they usually play out what they've read in books (Roald Dahl is huge in our house) or seen on TV or in movies.

By the way, I also enjoy adventuring in the a more simply fantasy word - It always reminds me of Middle Earth or Narnia.

Sorry for the thread necromancy . I've considering basing a kid friendly setting off of Castle Crashers as my nieces & nephews love it & so do I. Just need to work out on how to do so . It needs to flesh out the setting since it's really basic.

Here

Castle Crashers is basically a 4 player co-op medieval hack n slash game.  Great fun with friends.  I could definitely see the potential for role-playing with a group.
