Following is my attempt at an old school post-apocalyptic RPG in the vein of Gamma World, using M20 and parts of M74 and M20 Hard Core.

A few things I'd like to mention:

1) I deliberately left out rules on death.  There are plenty of different systems for determining when a character dies, each GM probably has their favorite.  And the rules should work well however you decide to do it.

2) I don't currently have a group to playtest this with.  However, since it uses the d20 system that most of us have been playing for years (decades?) I think most of it should work out pretty well.  The only part I'm not so sure about are the relic repair rules, which are my own creation.

3) No one was able to answer my question about the OGL, so I just looked at what others did and copied them as best I could.  I hope I did it right.

Suggestions, comments and questions are welcome.  Have fun blastin' mutants!

Edit:  Added version 1.1 after 29 downloads.  This version corrects the OGL, and there are some formatting changes.  The only significant changes are the words used to described relic condition:  Kaput is changed to Broken, Busted is changed to Malfunctioning and Working is changed to Functional.  Otherwise, none of the rules have been changed, and nothing added or removed.

Escape! is an introductory scenario for Relics and Ruins.  The scenario is not intended to be difficult, or even particularly challenging.  It's just a way to get the party together and dump them close to the town they can use as a base of operations for their first few levels.

Welcome to Vargo provides basic information on the starter town.  You'll have to come up with y our own town map, if you need one.

As always, questions and comments are welcome.

How in the world have I missed this?  This is great!

Mutant Venus flytraps?!  If I had a gaming group that was open to post-apoc, I'd play this in a heartbeat right now--I have Darwin's World 2 and one or two other PA games, but the systems are a bit too crunchy to really enable the sort of random whoo-hoo type of gaming I'm looking for in that type of setting.  This is pretty much ideal.

I'm glad you like it!  I put R&R together because I wanted a simple, rules light system, and even Omega World was too crunchy for my tastes.  If you ever do get a chance to play it, please post how it went.

I'm currently working on an introductory adventure, The Lost Vault, which should be ready in a week or two.

I like it. Good work.  i haven't tried it yet, but the relic repair rules look like they should work. If they don't, they should with only a bit a tweaking.

They look basically fine -- although I'm not a lawyer. One thing you probably forgot to change however. At the very end of the OGL you have:

Quote
This product is 100% Open Game Content except for Product Identity, as per the Open Game License above. Product Identity includes Microlite74 and Randall S.
Stukey and all pictures and illustrations.

This should probably read:

DOH!  Thanks, I missed that.  Well, as you probably figured out, I basically copied and pasted the OGL from the back of M74, and missed that part.  I'll be sure to change it.  Many thanks.

Okay, posted a new version that corrected the OGL.  Made a few minor changes and corrections as well, but the rules themselves are unchanged.

The Lost Vault

An introductory adventure for Relics and Ruins, which should get characters at least up to level 2 and possibly up to level 3.

As always, comments, questions and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

Pretty well done, EdoWar.

Noticed a typo though.

Thanks for spotting the typo, that should be Relic Armor, though I'm sure everyone could figure that out.  I've corrected it in my master copy, but I'll wait to put up a revision until more typos have been caught.

Many thanks.

I got inspired the other night and came up with some quick rules for making an android player character.  I've had a few ideas for some pulpy post-apocalyptic mayhem goodness, so I'll probably be putting up a few other things over the next week or two.  Remember, don't drink the water if it's glowing.

Salvage

Following are optional rules for Relics & Ruins.

It might be difficult to find an exact copy of a relic to use for repairs.  To remedy this, GM’s may opt to use these Salvage rules.

Salvage is a generic, abstract resource representing all the ammo, power cells, springs, bolts, casings, circuits, wiring, resistors, capacitors and other techy bits the character accumulates while wandering through the wasteland.

Salvage can be obtained either as loot from dead enemies, found lying about in ruins or, most likely, it will be acquired by salvaging relics.

To salvage a relic, the player merely needs to state that they are disassembling the relic for spare parts.  No test is required.  A functional relic yields 3 Salvage; a malfunctioning relic yields 2 Salvage and a broken relic yields 1 Salvage.

Functional Relic = 3 Salvage
Malfunctioning Relic = 2 Salvage
Broken Relic = 1 Salvage

Salvage can then be used to repair a malfunctioning relic in place of an exact duplicate of that relic.  Make a repair roll as usual.  Subtract 3 Salvage from the character’s total, less 1 Salvage for every 10 total points the DC is exceeded by, to a minimum of 1 Salvage (i.e., if the repair roll total is 30, only 2 Salvage is used).  This represents the parts used to effect repair.  The parts are still used even if the repair test failed.

Androids may also use Salvage to repair Hit Point damage.  The test is made as usual, using 3 Salvage instead of a relic item.  As with relic repairs, reduce the Salvage used by 1 for every 10 points the roll exceeds the DC, to a minimum of 1 Salvage (i.e. if the repair roll total is 25, only 2 points of Salvage are used).

Every 100 points of Salvage grouped together into a bag, pouch, satchel or other container counts as a single item for encumbrance purposes.
