I've never played in Tekumel, but someone has recently posted on the Tekumel Yahoo Group about using the setting with M74 or M20. Anyone here ever play that setting?

The main folks in the Yahoo Group seem to think that M20 is perfect for Tekumel.

Either M20 or M74 should work fine for Tekumel. Which I would use woyuld depend on which version of the Tekumel rules I was using as a source.  For example, I's probably use M74 rules if I the base rules were the original Empire of the Petal throne rules from 1975. M20 would probably work better for some of the latter Tekumel rules sets.

I'm on that group too and have to agree that M20 or M74 would work very well for Tekumel.

If you don't have a copy of any of the various rulebooks, rpgnow.com is a good place to find at least two versions (the original old school RPG and the Guardians of Order Tri-Stat version).

The original would be a lot easier to do with less work up front since it's class/level based.  The spell lists and class level benefits would pretty much convert straight across with minimal changes - they're already about as simplified as you can get.  The original EPT was a gem in that regard.

Best,
